Can Roe be saved? Is there life for unions after Janus? And what about the Affordable Care Act? Veteran organizer Heather Booth says we can win if we don't give up the fight.  Booth was the founder of Jane, a collective which provided over 11,000 safe underground abortions between 1969 and 1973 in Chicago. She also founded Midwest Academy, which has trained 25,000 community and labor organizers over the past four decades.

"There is a path in stopping Trump's nominee," says Booth. Demand Justice, Planned Parenthood, MoveOn.org, Refuse Fascism and The Center for Reproductive Rights are good sources of information. The Center for Reproductive Rights has up-to-date news about the fight to protect abortion rights all over the US and the world. Organize, act and vote. This Labor Day on Women's Magazine, we speak with Robin Williams, Director of Civil Rights and Community Action for the United Food & Commercial Workers International Union.  Williams joined UFCW as an 18-year-old Safeway worker with a new baby, and has become one of its key organizers.  She is one of 27 Black women labor leaders profiled in And Still I Rise: Black Women Labor Leaders, a report from the Black Worker Initiative of the Institute for Policy Studies.

We'll also talk with three of the women involved in the unionization campaign at the SOMA Whole Foods. The grocery chain offers a pre-cooked organic turkey dinner for 8 for $160. CEO John Mackey claims that Whole Foods has the highest profits as a percentage of sales of the Fortune 500 businesses but their employees are still paid under market wages.

Two weeks ago workers and supporters in San Francisco approached the south of Market Whole Foods to demand raises and the right to unionize with the IWW. Here is their story of what happened on November 6th.

Kate Raphael interviews Tret Fure, one of the pioneers of women's music. Tret produced many records for Olivia Records in its heyday, including "Meg and Cris at Carnegie Hall." She also has 18 albums of her own, continues to write, perform and produce, and is president of Local 1000, the Traveling Musicians Union. She'll be in San Francisco for a concert on September 27.
