| 2016 Pride Parade in Sao Paulo |
KPFA Women's Magazine talks to journalist Beatriz Miranda about the threat posed to LGBTQI people by Brazil's newly elected president, Jair Bolsonaro. We also discuss the history of LGBTQI rights in Brazil - Miranda calls Brazil the LGBTQI murder capital of the world - and how and why Brazilians turned from the leftist Workers' Party (PT) of Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff, to the extreme right-wing Bolsonaro.

Beyond Gay Marriage
Today on Women's Magazine we have an encore presentation of Lisa Dettmer Radio documentary Beyond Gay Marriage. As the issue of Same Sex marriage is covered widely in the media "Beyond Gay Marriage" takes an a critical look at the Gay Marriage movement and asks : Why is gay marriage the primary issue of the Gay Community? And is Same Sex marriage really the issue most LGBT people are interested in? What effect does the funding and emphasis on Same Sex Marriage have on displacing other crucial life and death LGBT issues? This radiodocumentary presents the voices of LGBT scholars and activists seldom heard in the media, all of whom provide acutting edge critique of the "Gay Marriage" movement and the mainstreaming of gay politics and talk about what

Monday, June 8, 2015: Ireland--Feminist Rights and LGBT
Why is gay marriage winning and abortion rights losing? Today June 8th on KPFA Radio's Women's Magazine we talk to feminists Katha Pollitt and Meghan Murphy about the recent vote in Ireland to legalize same sex marriage and we ask how is it that Ireland is now touted as in the vanguard of progressive politics after legalizing same sex marriage while abortion is still illegal in Ireland except when a women's life is in danger. Are the rights of LGBT people and feminists in conflict?
