International Women’s Strike 2019- Bay Area Action
March 8th, 5:00 - 7:30PM
Oscar Grant Plaza
Oakland, CA

We invite the public to reclaim International Women's Day and honor its radical legacy. We are speaking out against sexism, racism, colonialism, capitalism and exploitation. We are coming together to listen to each other, heal, celebrate our resistance and invigorate our movement. In the spirit of the International Women's Strike, we join women and non binary people worldwide in the fight for an end to gender violence, freedom from borders, reproductive justice for all, labor rights, environmental justice, and an antiracist and anti-imperialist feminism.

Come ready to speak and listen as we affirm our collective power! Please note that this will be a family friendly event and childcare will be provided.

This is the third year the national network International Women's Strike - US has called for March 8th actions in conjunction and solidarity with other actions and strikes all over the world (especially Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Poland and many other countries).

Weare seeking to develop a democratic and grassroots space that is geared towards education and collective action, and is independent of establishment parties and institutions.

Some of the most pressing problems specific to women identified and gender non-binary people - gender violence, reproductive rights, forced sterilization- connect to other larger struggles (labor, prison abolition, immigration, police violence, housing crisis, unemployment, etc) and to the contestation of capitalist society. In this speak-out we want to present these as FEMINIST issues. Join us in speaking out on March 8th and beyond!

We encourage the Bay Area to join us in taking action as part of a feminism for the 99 percent that brings together black and brown women, older women and youth; that encompasses cis-,trans- and gender non-binary workers; stands for the poor and the low-waged, for unpaid caregivers, and for sex workers and immigrants.
