Monday, March 20, 2017: The Space Between Us with Jovelyn Richards

KPFA Women's Magazine presents a new format that will air every third Monday. Each program of The Space Between Us hosted by Jovelyn Richards will examine the relationships between girls and women all over the world by telling each other's stories. In this way we will attempt to shift and raise consciousness by listening and sharing our journeys.

Today we discuss the space between Black women and white women by answering the question, when did you first realize who you are and how you knew the space between you and others? Judy Grahn, author of A Simple Revolution: The Making of an Activist Poet joins us.

This is a live, call-in show.

The next Space Between Us will air on April 17, 2017.

Monday, June 13, 2016: Love Your Fat & Let It All Hang Out

Monday on KPFA Women's Magazine, we listen to an interview with Sarai Walker, author of the fabulous radical feminist novel, Dietland.  Walker's novel, one of Entertainment Weekly's Top 10 of 2015, draws on her Ph.D. research focused on normative femininity of the body; the fat female body; consciousness-raising and the ‘personal is political’ in feminist practice and as a literary aesthetic; and critical theory, particularly Michel Foucault.  Don't miss this great interview by Meghan Murphy of Feminist Current, produced by Women's International News Gathering Service.

"We're Fat! We're Mean! We don't eat lean quizine!"

Next Kate Raphael talks with long-time feminist fat activist Deeg Gold about fat dyke activism in the seventies, eighties and nineties, including Let It All Hang Out Day in 1989 and 1990 in San Francisco.

"It kind of isn't healthy to discriminate against people."
