This Monday May 23rd from 1-2pm, KPFA Radio’s Women’s Magazine talks to internationally known NonViolent Communication facilitator Miki Kashtan about her vision of a world where we can cooperate more fully with each other and where all our needs are attended to which is meticulously described in her inspiring new book “Reweaving Our Human Fabric-Working Together to Create a Nonviolent Future.” Buddhist teacher Joanna Macy describes this book as a brave and brilliant book that shows how the radical interdependence of all things can be expressed in a more grounded and practical way for social as well as personal transformation. Her innovation in social change theory follows in the the lineage of Gandhi and MLK and move beyond nonviolent communication as a personal development resource to help transform the larger systems and norms that govern our world.

"Couldn't stop thinking about Eileen Hansen last night. I was so lucky to have sat next to her at a Mime Troupe fundraising brunch a few weeks ago. I noted that she hardly ate, but she said she was feeling okay, getting stronger. She sure didn't seem like she was about to die. We had a long talk about Modern Times Bookstore, which she was helping to keep alive. Feel happy to have known her but just so sad to have lost her." Kate Raphael post on Facebook.

Rachel Herzing, co-founder of the prison abolition group Critical Resistance, and former US-held political prisoner Laura Whitehorn, talk about the findings of a unique delegation to Palestine comprising U.S. labor and academic solidarity activists as well as former political prisoners and anti-incarceration activists.  This was the first delegation to focus on solidarity between US and Palestinian prisoners.

March 24 to April 2, 2016

At a moment of growing resistance to state violence and injustice the world over, a delegation of nineteen anti-prison, labor and scholar-activists from the United States traveled to Palestine in March 2016.  Our delegation included former U.S.-held political prisoners and social prisoners, former Black Panther Party members, prison abolitionists, trade unionists and university professors.  We are the first U.S. delegation to Palestine to focus specifically on political imprisonment and solidarity between Palestinian and U.S. prisoners.  Our delegation also focused on recent labor struggles in Palestine for bread and dignity, and on the struggles of Palestinian intellectuals to assert the rightful claims of Indigenous Palestinians to their land, culture and history.

On this April 17, the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Prisoners, we demand freedom for the 7,000 Palestinian political prisoners currently held in Israeli jails and all those fighting for justice everywhere, including political prisoners in U.S. prisons.
